Which PTZ zoom do you need?

Zoom is the number people overpay for. Measure from where the camera will sit to the person you'll film, then pick the smallest zoom that reaches.

How far each zoom reaches

Optical zoomWaist-up shot up toOur cheapest with this zoom
12×about 13 m₱34,999
20×about 23 m₱25,900
25×about 28 m₱114,999
30×about 34 m₱49,999

Distances are for a waist-up shot of one person. Every PTZ camera we sell comes with its joystick controller.

How to measure

  • Stand where the camera will be mounted (usually the back wall or a balcony).
  • Measure to the pulpit, teacher or stage — a laser measure or counting floor tiles is fine.
  • Add a couple of metres if you want tighter head-and-shoulder shots.

When more zoom is worth it

If one camera has to cover both a wide shot of the stage and a tight shot of the speaker from the back of a long hall, go one step up. Otherwise the smaller zoom gives a brighter, steadier picture for less money.

Questions people ask

Is digital zoom the same as optical zoom?

No. Optical zoom uses the lens and keeps the picture sharp; digital zoom crops the image. The table uses optical zoom.
